Celebrating 30 Years of Diversity and Multiculturalism

Fall 2019 marks a significant time at Lehigh University as it gears up to honor the 30th anniversary of the Umoja House residential community.  Through a series of events, we commemorate this milestone year, embracing our theme of "Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future", while preserving the meaning of why this space exists at Lehigh University.

For 30 years, Umoja - which means “unity” in Swahili,  has fostered a community of student residents and leaders through a shared exploration of diversity and multiculturalism.  This community has been a beacon, a destination, a safe-space that unifies and develops student advocates to pursue greater knowledge both academically and socially.  We will be kicking off our celebratory events on Thursday, October 24th and culminating with full engagement activities during the Lehigh v. Lafayette Weekend (November 22nd & November 23rd).  The planning committee is working towards setting the stage for future generations of students to use the energy of grit and resilience of the founders of the house to make significant and systemic changes at our beloved institution.
